Glee, Season 2, Episode 8 - "Furt"

This week's Glee was back to the Glee that we all know and love. It actually had plot! Kurt is still getting intimidated by that giant football dude - so then Artie, Mike Chang (love him!), Sam, and possibly Puck?, go after Karofsky and tell him to back down. Then Burt notices what's going on and forces a parent meeting with Sue mediating, and then Karofsky is expelled. And then we have a Glee wedding, with Carole and Burt getting married. (And the BEST SCENES EVER!) Loved the dancing down the aisles, loved the songs, loved the speeches. Then Sue marries herself, in one of the strangest story plots ever. And then we find out that Karofsky was un-expelled because there was no firm evidence that he actually did anything to Kurt. And so the newlywed Hummels take their honeymoon money to send Kurt to Dalton - that awesome prep school with the awesome Blaine and the awesome glee group, hopefully setting up a multitude of awesome scenes between Blaine and Kurt. And by scenes, I mean songs.

Also loved the promise ring proposal. Sam's speech to Quinn was adorable, and I melted on the spot, so how is it that Quinn - a supposedly teenage girl with teenage angst - was able to turn him down with a "maybe"?? They're super cute together.

Finn - I take it back. You can sing. You can sing quite well. You have been redeemed in my eyes.

I adored this episode. More, please!

Glee, Season 2 Episode 7 "The Substitute"

Gwyneth Paltrow!

Was not so bad right? I was entertained, but then again, I'm coming off of a terrible terrible interview day, so maybe I'm just easily amused today.

So anyways, here's what happened on Glee: There's some major crazy flu strain going around, and Sue sics the sick girl germs on Figgins and Mr. Schuester. Who both get crazy sick. Sue assumes the principal role, and Principal Sue bans tater tots, so in a strange subplot, Mercedes channels her best Napoleon Dynamite "I want my tots" impression. And we find out later she's substituting food for Kurt, who she's substituting for a boyfriend aka love. And that's no good. So now she's going to crush on some crazy good lookin' football player. And I can't help but wonder why they had to get rid of Shaft [did we ever learn his real name?].

Anyways, so Mr. Schue is gone, so Holly Holliday steps in to sub, and she does everything the kids want to do - from singing Top 40 songs (Cee-Lo in the house), to performing the Hot Honey Rag from Chicago with Rachel in full costume. The funniest bits were the kids flashing back to scenes with Mr. Schue only wanting to do Journey songs. No wait, I take it back. THE BEST PART was Mr. Schue seeing the kids in miniature. WHY WEREN'T THERE MORE SCENES OF THIS?? THE MINI-GLEEKS WERE SO CUTE!!!! Anyways, so Mr. Schuester comes back and wants to do Singing in the Rain, the kids are bummed because the song is like SO ANCIENT, so they mash it up with Umbrella to make it current, and cue The Most Expensive Auditorium In The World, because somehow McKinley High can afford a theater that doubles as a water tank, but it did make for a very pretty and entertaining last song.

And that's what you missed. On Glee! (ba ba ba BA!)

That "Make Them Laugh" number was super random. I mean, yay for using Harry Shum Jr. in more scenes, but Glee is starting to do a lot of dream sequences just to get in songs [see the Britney/Brittany episode], and this one didn't even really seem to make any sense. Come now - that's just creative laziness!

Also, given that it's Gwyneth Paltrow week, I'm surprised they didn't throw in a reference to Coldplay. Or her new country movie. Or apples.

So another "bonus" week with not that much plot development really. Still loving Blaine - did you hear they're making him a series regular? Yay!

Glee "Never Been Kissed"

I don't have time for a full Glee recap right now but it was one of my favorites of the season so far. If you haven't seen it yet, I'll just put this in because this should sell it all by itself. I've watched it too many times to count. It's a sick sick addiction.
And if you aren't totally in awe of this then ... how are you even HUMAN!?!?!

Glee, Season 2 Episode 5 "Rocky Horror Glee Show"

Soooooooo, I've never seen Rocky Horror before. But in preparation for tonight's Gleepisode, Jean and I watched it...and holy crap, that 70s movie is trippy. But the songs are uber catchy!

Some thoughts

1. I love Carl and Emma together.

2. I love Carl's voice -- is it better than Mr. Schue's? I think the dentist is definitely better to look at...

3. ...but then again, maybe it's because I'm biased by all the bad feelings I'm feeling towards Mr. Schue. DUBYA TEE EFF sir -- the whole Toucha Toucha Toucha Touch Me song was way inappropriate, right?

4. Everything Mr. Schue is kinda inappropriate.

5. HOLY CRAP FINN CAN ACTUALLY SING! Listen writers - please let Cody Monteith sing in his normal register...he sounds so much better.

6. Damn, Sam has a fabulous-abulous body. More, please!

7. Who sang the opening credits? Was it Quinn or Santana? And whose lips do you think they used??

Glee, Season 2 Episode 4 "Duets"

Oh man, I love this new guy Sam, overly luscious lips and all.

So the assignment this week was duets, and Mr. Shue upped the stakes with a dinner at Breadsticks for the winning duo. Oooohhhh. Rachel decided that she and Finn were too good, and needed to lose, preferable allowing Sam to win so that he would feel like a necessary part of the team. Sam made a move on Quinn and she rejected his kissy advances, but still decided to duet with him. Personally, I'm firmly on the Sam and Quinn ship, but does anyone know if Quinn is supposed to still be with Puck? Who knows?

Sure it was rigged, but I would have voted for Sam and Quinn to take it all too. Their voices go together so well. I couldn't stop smiling - they were so cute. But poor Kurt!

That said, I have a feeling Sam's going to turn out to be Kurt's gay boyfriend...anyone else?

Glee, Season 2 Episode 3 "Grilled Cheesus"

Glee's back to it's normal non-tribute-y glorious self. Awesome story, and awesome songs.

Story line - Kurt is acting out like a typical teenager brat, and then his dad has a heart attack. Or rather, suffers an arrhythmia that puts him in a coma. Now, I know I'm not the best medical student, but I don't think that's possible. Just saying. I never heard of Vtach causing coma. Or Afib causing coma. It usually goes straight to DEATH, right? Correct me if I'm wrong. Anyways, digression aside, it was pretty touching - from Mercedes' TWO solos, to Kurt's stripped down and gorgeous Beatles' cover - I found myself reaching for the kleenex more than once.

In story line comic relief, Finn burns a grilled cheese and discovers the face of Jesus (hence the title), and his prayers start coming true - from touching Rachel's side boob to becoming quarterback again (admittedly at Sam's shoulder's expense).

Songs were interesting:

2. Barbara Streisand - Papa, Can You Hear Me? (I know people loved this one, but I thought it was just out of place...singing in a field?? Really? Sure, it was very lovely, but it just seemed too Broadway for me. Maybe it's because of Lea Michele's scrunched up face - Amy, I can't help but see it all the time now!!)

3. Joan Osborne - One of Us (loved it!)

4. Simon and Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water

5. Whitney Houston - I Look to You

6. Beatles - I Wanna Hold Your Hand

7. Billy Joel - Only the Good Die Young

So many songs! But still lots of really good storyline! Love it.

Glee, Season 2 Episode 2 "Britney/Brittany"

It's Britney, bitch!

Damn my call schedule that has me working on my birthday next week. AND ON THE BIGGEST GLEE EPISODE EVER. No worries, I watched Glee the moment I got home today. And here's what I missed...on GLEE:

Overall - there really was barely any story this week, huh? I liked the Lady Gaga episode because it advanced the story and had great songs. This on the other hand, just felt like a bunch of Britney songs that were forced into the episode. It didn't quite flow. I was quite disturbed by that Jacob dude's faux (or real?) orgasm during the group's homecoming number. And disturbed that Mr. Schue was performing Toxic with the kids. Can we say inappropriate??

On to the music!

I'm a Slave 4U - So totally cool to see Brittany recreate all the iconic Britney looks. But even though Heather Morris has a pretty decent singing voice, the song felt blah to me. Maybe Glee should go back and visit Lady Gaga and "theatricality!"

Me Against the Music - given the whole Madonna/Britney MTV kiss, this seemed like a subtle little wink to Brittany and Santana's "friendship." Holy cow, Brittany is an awesome dancer. Better than Ms. Spears herself? I think yes - see why in the video below:

Yup, that would be our dear Heather Morris herself putting a ring on it right alongside Beyonce herself! No wonder Kurt knew how to do that dance so well!

Anyways, I digress...

Hit Me Baby One More Time - I thought this was possibly the weakest song. I love the Britney song, so why didn't I love it when Lea Michele sang it? Maybe I was distracted by her obvious lack of dance ability. Or because - as Amy pointed out - she scrunches up her eyes and face for high notes...and let's face it. Britney Spears is not hard to sing. Thus, it does not require effort and scrunching of faces. This is not Broadway Ms. Lea. Please control your face a little better.

Stronger - I actually really liked it! It fit continuity wise, with Artie trying to impress Tina. Maybe I just have a thing for football teams dancing choreography, but I enjoyed it.

Toxic - I really enjoyed this. I just wish Mr. Schue weren't performing with them, because it felt dirty to have a teacher performing a raunchy song with his students. But I love the choreo, loved the way they split up the solos, loved the outfits. But then again, this is my favorite Britney song, so how could they possibly mess it up?

The Only Exception - another song for Ms. Lea, another song where she scrunches up her face. But I must say, I love the song. And how cute, The Only Exception was the only non-Britney song performed. Get it? It was the only exception to all the Britney songs. Ha, Glee - how clever.

All in all, good tribute.

Next time on Glee: I have no idea, since Hulu doesn't show previews for next week. You guys will have to fill me in. On a side note, I cannot wait for the inevitable Mr. Schue vs Carl showdown, cause we ALL know that Uncle Jessie is awesome at singing, dancing, and rocking a mullet.

Glee, Season 2 Episode 1 "Auditions"

Three new people join the Glee cast. Sunshine - the singing love child of Rachel and Mercedes. Sam - the new (and much improved) Finn. And Beiste - pronounced "beast" - the new female football coach, way rough around the edges, but with a sympathetic twist.
